Position: Middle School Football Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director
Employment Status: Coaching Position – Seasonal/Extra Duty
Position Summary
The Middle School Football Coach is responsible for providing leadership, instruction, and supervision to student-athletes participating in the middle school football program. The coach will promote skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, academic responsibility, and positive character while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct organized football practices that develop fundamental skills, conditioning, teamwork, and game strategies.
- Teach proper football techniques, rules, positions, and sportsmanship.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, team activities, and travel.
- Maintain a safe environment and follow all district, league, and athletic policies.
- Monitor and respond appropriately to student-athlete injuries and safety concerns.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, and athletic administration.
- Encourage student-athletes to maintain appropriate academic performance and behavior.
- Promote respect, discipline, teamwork, accountability, and good sportsmanship.
- Coordinate with other coaching staff regarding practices, games, equipment, and player development.
- Maintain accurate attendance and other required athletic records.
- Properly use, maintain, and secure football equipment and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with district, league, and state athletic association rules and requirements.
- Represent the school and district in a professional and positive manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Qualifications
- Previous football playing or coaching experience preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with middle school students.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to promote a positive team culture and work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
- Knowledge of football fundamentals, safety practices, and coaching techniques.
- Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain required certification.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening and district coaching requirements.
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, lift and carry equipment, and participate in or demonstrate football-related activities as necessary. The coach must be able to supervise athletes effectively in outdoor conditions and during athletic events.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed outdoors and may involve varying weather conditions. The position requires afternoon/evening practices, athletic contests, occasional travel, and attendance at scheduled team activities.
