Position Description

 

Title: Summer School Program Principal (Administrator)

Department: Migrant Education Program

Supervised by: Interim Director of Migrant Education  or Superintendent  

 

Position Purpose:

This position is co- responsible for planning, organizing, and administering the migrant summer school program.

Core Job Functions:

  1. Collaborates with district personnel and peers in other districts for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs. Participates in organizational meetings with school districts, ESD, Resources Available to Migrant Access to Services (RAMAS) and other staff.
  2. Coordinates and leads the hiring process for summer school staff. 
  3. Coordinates summer school curriculum in consultation with appropriate members of the summer school staff, ESD staff, and Teaching and Learning.
  4. Coordinate and provide support for bi-national teachers from Mexico (i.e. help with housing placements, transportation, etc.), if needed.
  5. Facilitates communication and coordination among instructional staff for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and ensuring that state mandates are achieved. Monitors quality of instruction for course offerings. 
  6. Performs personnel functions (e.g. recruitment, hiring, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing (including substitutes), and ensuring that program objectives are achieved within budget.
  7. Prepares the summer school calendar and schedule. Assumes responsibility for registration and assignment of students.
  8. Requisitions and inventories classroom equipment, supplies, and textbooks.
  9. Supervises staff and students and addresses questions and/or concerns of staff, students, and parents.
  10. Responsible for student attendance and submission of enrollment and attendance reports as required. 

 

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  2. Follows and supports ESD policies and procedures.
  3. Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the success of the agency.

Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the core functions of this job in a school/classroom.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, sit, communicate, hear and some travel.  The employee frequently is required to maintain a high activity level in order to adequately support and supervise children. The employee is occasionally required to run and physically restrain a child. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with standard office equipment with moving mechanical parts and computers.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Columbia Gorge ESD Board policy on evaluation.

 

Terms of Employment:

Number of days to be negotiated from March - July. Planning time, outside of regular school administrative hours, as necessary for organization and development of summer school program and recruitment and training of staff (including various hours during the current school year for preparation). On-site administration of summer school program, based on summer school calendar. Summer school is to begin on or near June 14, 2024, and will end around July 29, 2024 (dependent upon the start of cherry harvest).
