Position Description
Title: Preschool Promise Instructional Assistant
Department: Early Learning
Work Year: 185 Days (1.0FTE)
Supervised by: Early Learning Director or Superintendent
Position Purpose:
Collaborates with the teacher in providing a positive learning environment and curriculum that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development. Provide written and oral translation as needed.
Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
Core Job Functions:
1.Ensures labeling, schedule, and management systems are accurate and in place.
2. Organizes materials and furniture into an environment that supports active and quiet playtime and assisting teacher in modifying the environment to respond to individual children’s needs.
3.Supervises all children’s indoor and outdoor activities while incorporating positive guidance and behavior management techniques.
4. Assists with custodial duties of the classroom as needed.
5. Assists teacher in taking data on children and an annual inventory of all classroom equipment and supplies as instructed.
6. Contributes to team effort.
7. Develops supportive relationships with each child.
8. Assists in the activity planning for parents and volunteers.
9. Anticipates classroom problems and acting in a supportive positive manner as guided by
the classroom policies and practices.
10. Applies safety practices in all facets of the performance of duties.
11. Reports immediately any unsafe or hazardous working conditions and/or any injury.
12. Interprets for meetings.
13. Works directly with Spanish speaking students under the direction of therapists and pre-school teacher.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as may be assigned by classroom teacher, Early Learning Director or Superintendent to support the success of the district.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English.
Patience, understanding, and empathy for students with special needs.
Realization of age appropriateness, regardless of handicapping condition.
Willingness to learn or follow precise prescribed directions.
Ability to work with children and parents from a variety of ethnic, social or educational backgrounds.
Punctual and demonstrates excellent attendance.
Education and Experience:
AA degree preferred
High School Diploma, GED, or Diploma de Educacion Secundaria AND
Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate AND
12 months of qualified teaching experience in a certified child care center or comparable group care program in the care of preschool age children.
Other Job Requirements:
Must be registered with Oregon’s Central Background Registry .
This position is an authorized driver and must possess current driver’s license, good driving record, and auto insurance coverage as defined by CGESD Policy.
Possess current First Aid and CPR cards with infant/child CPR.
Must possess and maintain food handler’s card.
Ability to travel occasionally
Ability to relate positively to children and adults.
Must maintain any current educational licensing.
Working Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the core functions of this job. Physical requirements: Use of hands for single grasping, pushing or pulling and fine motor manipulation; frequently bend, squat, lift, sit or climb stairs; lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; and may be required to run and/or physically restrain a child.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Columbia Gorge ESD Board policy on evaluation.
Terms of Employment:
Number of days per year as per negotiated agreement.
