Title: STEM Hub Coordinator

Supervised by: Program Director – STEM Hub

Work Year: 190 Work Days

Job Purpose Statement:

 

In collaboration with the STEM Hub Director, STEM Hub Leadership Team, and community partners, the coordinator will work to expand career connected learning and STEM community outreach in the Columbia Gorge. The role is based in The Dalles but serves the STEM Hub’s 5-county region (Gilliam, Hood River, Sherman, Wasco, and Wheeler counties).

 

Job Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, public administration, non-profit management, business administration, or related field, or be able to demonstrate five years of successful experience in one or more of these fields. Master’s Degree
  • Must hold a current recognized first aid card or be willing to obtain same if directed by the district under ORS 342.664 (2).

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
  • Successfully pass district background screening

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bilingual/bicultural in Spanish
  • Creative problem solver and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Strong skills with Google Suite tools, especially Google Drive, Docs, Forms, and Sheets.
  • Understanding of the mission and purpose of the Gorge STEM Hub and its impact on improving PreK-20 STEM education. Knowledge & experience in Career & Technical Education (CTE) or workforce development
  • Understanding of the importance of Pre-K-20 STEM education on the region’s economic growth and development.
  • Successful history of group facilitation and event coordination with different audiences in different settings.
  • Excellent verbal, written, electronic, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to break down complex, long-term projects into action-oriented steps and delegate where appropriate.
  • Understanding of Oregon’s Equity Lens and ability to interpret and incorporate this lens into STEM Hub decision-making and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school board policies, as well as Oregon law and administrative rule

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinate a team of cross-sector regional partners to take a collaborative approach to career connected learning.
  2. Work with local community and education partners to organize career exposure events for middle and high school students.
  3. Develop an internship program to expose local high school students to future STEM career opportunities.
  4. Continually cultivate business partners and sponsors to support the career connected learning work.
  5. Establish and manage partnerships with educators, nonprofits, governmental agencies, business, and/or other community stakeholders to improve community outcomes.
  6. Maintain consistent and transparent communications with a wide variety of people and serve as an objective supporter and leader across all Hub counties, valuing each county, agency and stakeholder individually and equally.
  7. Collect and analyze program data for project improvement and evaluation. Make informed decisions utilizing research, best practices, and data relevant to STEM education.
  8. Work with the STEM Hub Director to identify gaps in STEM awareness and equitable access; develop collaborative outreach opportunities to address those gaps.
  9. Prepare and submit required local and state project reports as requested or required.
  10. Assist with general event planning and represent the STEM Hub at public events.
  11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Attend trainings related to professional growth to stay current on best practices.

Note: Oregon schools have been directed by the Governor under OAR 333-019-1030 to ensure that school teachers, staff and volunteers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  "Fully vaccinated" is defined as 14 days after receiving all required doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine (currently two shots of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one shot of Johnson & Johnson vaccine). Under this rule employees must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Exemptions may be made only for eligible medical or religious reasons.
