Job Purpose Statement:

 

The School Psychologist will provide assessment of students’ intellectual and mental functional levels; provide information for program development and student placement; develop behavior plans; and provide information on child development and/or issues on specific students to instructional personnel. 

 

Job Qualifications, Licensure, Certification:        

  • Master’s Degree/Ed.S or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of the following areas: Counseling, Community Health, and or Psychology.
  • Licensed in School Psychology through the Oregon Teachers Standards and Practices Commission or the National Association of School Psychologist
  • Certified - American Board of Professional Psychology
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
  • Successfully pass district background screening

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to provide leadership to staff in areas of specialization.
  2. Ability to assist in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum and/or instructional materials in the area of responsibility.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively with teachers, administrators, students, and parents, in a variety of settings.
  4. Ability to assist in the development of school plans and organizational procedures for health, safety and discipline and conduct of students, within district policy guidelines and in partnership with teachers and administration.
  5. Excellent command of oral and written English language and ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  6. Ability to assist in writing valid IEPs and to follow IDEA and 504 procedures
  7. Physical ability to train and/or assist staff in physical management of students in crisis
  8. Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information
  10. Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines
  11. Perform physical requirements which may include:

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Conduct comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations, including formal and informal assessments within school psychologist scope of practice for special education.
  2. Interpret evaluation results, summarize findings through written and verbal means, and assist special education teams in determining educational eligibility.
  3. Prepares organizes and maintains confidential files and student records in accordance with ESD, state and federal policies and guidelines.
  4. Provides consultation to ESD staff, community partners, and parents regarding typical and atypical developmental, disability specific characteristics, behavior and other student needs.
  5. Evaluate effectiveness of behavior intervention strategies, collaborate with teams and suggest intervention strategies with a preventative focus, including comprehensive and supporting documentation as needed.
  6. Works cooperatively with school staff and parents to develop, implement and track Individual Family Support Plans (IFSP’s) to meet student learning and self-sufficiency needs.
  7. Plans and implements service delivery models including individual, small group and classroom settings.
  8. Maintains open communication to keep districts informed of the activities and services of the program.
  9. Assists the EI/ECSE program and/or ESD in district-wide or countywide special projects and/or committee work.
  10. Coordinates and cooperates with community partners to provide services to students with self-sufficiency, behavioral, and other student needs.
