Job Purpose Statement/s:

 

The Music teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students in al K-12 Music classes. The teacher also performs instructional and related duties as they pertain to the state and district standards in Music education. The Music teacher must perform duties in accordance with District Policies and terms of the teacher contract.  The teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents and students     .

 

Job Qualifications & Licensure:

  • BA/BS or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of the following areas: Curriculum, Elementary Education, Reading, Music, Early Childhood Education, or similar.
  • V Salid Oregon Teaching License (Must meet Highly Qualified Requirements)
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
  • Holds and maintains an appropriate license and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon; and displays a willingness to teach any qualified subject area. Must be able to provide nitration at assigned levels (Elementary, Middle and High School).

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

  1. Have a thorough understanding of the requirements related to state and district standards in Music education
  2. Be capable of developing course goals related to state and district standards in music education.
  3. Use techniques and introduce appropriate methods of teaching that enable all students to meet the state and district benchmarks for music education.
  4. Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods.
  5. Promote high levels of achievement in relation to individual student ability. Use techniques and methodologies appropriate to student ability.
  6. Use adopted district curriculum and appropriate supplementary materials.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of and abilities to use research-based principles of effective instruction.
  8. Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes. Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes.
  9. Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement.
  10. Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly.
  11. Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning.
  12. Develop written rules of classroom behavior and communicate those rules to all students. Enforce written rules for classroom behavior.
  13. Communicate course goals and academic expectations to students.
  14. Provide for the health and safety of student in all instructional settings
  15. Prepare effectively for class
  16. Prepare daily lesson plans.
  17. Provide instruction predicated on course goals objectives, aligned with district adopted standards.
  18. Develop and communicate appropriate grading standards to students
  19. Establish written grading standards that are clear and incorporate a variety of graded activities. Assure that grading standards are explained and available to parents.
  20. Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  21. Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy consideration, respect, and cultural awareness and responsibility.
  22. Maintain a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, students and parents. Share appropriate information with parents and with other staff members.
  23. Provide documentation of students' progress
  24. Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and appropriate staff members.
  25. Assign and check homework and provide feedback to students.
  26. Maintain appropriate records of student performance.
  27. Build motivation and interest in learning.
  28. Exhibit personal interest and encourage student interest in the subject area. Maintain a current awareness of activities in music education.
  29. Maintain an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development.
  30. Develop and implement annually an approved plan for professional growth and development. Identify and request to attend professional workshop activities intended to increase the teacher's instructional effectiveness.
  31. Participate in District sponsored in service offerings appropriate to assignment. Maintain an attitude of helping in the total school atmosphere.
  32. Be willing to be involved in student activities of the total school outside of your regular classroom, i.e., assemblies, concerts, field trips and programs.
  33. Oversee activities related to musical group performances and trips.
  34. Meet with parent booster club as needed.
  35. Plan concert programs, including building use facilities requests.
  36. Assure that trips are planned and chaperoned in accordance with District policies.
